GIS Mapping Sites

GIS for the Internet

The GIS websites hosted by the GIS Department provide tools to a variety of stakeholders to gather information and make decisions.

The sites are created with customized client-side interfaces which make the usability dynamic and powerful.

To keep current with website technology, newer websites are being created with Silverlight and Flex applications.  These two application styles bring current technology to the mapping sites while also providing a more stylish design and layout.

***ATTENTION***
BRAND NEW MAP WITH NEW FUNCTIONALITY!

Vanderburgh County Assessors Office

Here is the Vanderburgh County Assessors Parcel Site. Here you can view details about properties. There is a lot of functionality built into this site and the data is searchable in many different ways. Be sure to explore the many tools on the toolbar under the map. In addition to Property Information, there are also Subdivision Boundaries, and Proposed Land Valuations. Zoom in, turn on the aerial photo and see the surrounding area!

Evansville Police Department

On this site you can view weekly and monthly crime stats, police beats, reporting areas, subdivisions/apartments, neighborhood associations and other useful layers. The aerial photography becomes active the closer you zoom in. The crime data can be queried based on which crime layer is active. There is also a site tutorial created to assist the user in maximizing the type of information they can view.

Evansville / Vanderburgh
Building Commission

On this site you can find contours and flood zones. Please note the new FEMA Flood maps became effective March 17, 2011. The Building footprints (color outlines) are from 1990 so when you zoom in close enough to activate the 2005 aerial photo you can see what has been constructed (no color outlines) in the last 20 years! The upper left button (legend) on the tool bar will display the meanings of the color lines.

Vanderburgh County Surveyor

Here you can view details about section corners, elevation benchmarks, the Indiana/Kentucky State line, Burdette Park property pins, and other useful land surveying information. The data can be queried based on which layer is active. As you zoom in, the aerial photos come into view. The GPS point data will grow as survey crews gather more GPS points.

Evansville/Vanderburgh
Area Plan Commission

On this site you can view the different zoning classes, special uses, with conditions, preservation areas and other useful planner related layers. Users can query information based on Owners Last Name, Property Address, Docket Number, Parcel Number, and Subdivision Name. If the user is not sure of particular information to query, they can enter a “%” sign which acts as a wildcard.

Evansville Urban Forestry

This site contains details about trees in the City of Evansville. In 2002 the City of Evansville began a tree inventory, which consists of inventorying all public trees and street trees in the City. This site will show locations of trees, tree canopy cover, State champion trees, forested areas, and other significant trees. To view canopy tree cover or aerial maps please zoom into an area of interest. The inventory data will grow as inventory crews gather data.

Evansville Water and Sewer Utility

This site contains information about heavy trash pickup dates for the City of Evansville. Enter your street address, then click enter. The map will zoom to your address, and your data will be displayed. If you cannot locate your address, Please call 436-7853 M-F 8:00 -5:00

ArcGIS Server

ArcGIS Server provides the foundation for distributing high-end geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping services via the Internet. ArcGIS Server software enables users to integrate local data sources with Internet data sources for display, query, and analysis in an easy-to-use Web browser.

ArcGIS Server revolutionizes the way users can access and interact with Internet mapping and GIS data.

Public Access

By far, the most diverse and particular stakeholder is the general public.  Providing the most up-to-date information to not only our internal enterprise users, but also the general public gives all of our users the tools to make constructive and well-thought decisions.

Behind the scenes

We host and manage our own web and GIS servers. Doing so allows us to maximize our investment into GIS. We are able to custom code the many different sites we have to make them interact with the public in different ways. One site may interact with a database miles away and others very simple. By us controlling it all, we are able to provide functionality and a level of support unprecedented in our area.
