City / County Receives 2003 SAG Award


Over the past two years, The City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County, Indiana has made significant progress with the implementation of its Geographic Information System (GIS).

These investments have resulted in never before seen GIS capabilities, networking infrastructure, and improved effectiveness related to general operations and decision-making.

The establishment of the GIS Department in 2001, has been a tremendous influence in not only GIS technology, but also in infrastructure design and implementation, remote connectivity design and implementation, High-end GIS website development, and Spatial database design, implementation, and maintenance.

It is the GIS departments goal and vision, to continue to implement cost effective high technology solutions that fill the need for executive leadership, elected officials, and city/county departments to better serve the public.

The City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County was awarded the Special Achievement in GIS award by ESRI at the 2003 International User Conference in San Diego, California.  The award was given to the City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County for demonstrating outstanding work, dedication, and progress in establishing an Enterprise GIS System over the last two years since the GIS department was created.

Evansville/Vanderburgh County was 1 of only 133 organizations chosen throughout the world, and the only one in the State of Indiana. The 133 organizations were chosen for their exceptional work from over 100,000 plus organizations in the world.
